PedalsI've had my P 38 for about a month. I thought I could use pedals with no retention but found that I couldn't relax and spin. I tried Power Grips and didn't like those. I now have my Time Attacks from my DF bike on the P 38 and that works fine, but I want more float in my spin. I've heard that Bebop is the pedal of choice for bent riding. Any comments on your favorite?

which clipless pedals for recumbent riding?
Hello Eddy,
Bebops and Speedplay pedals are often the choice of riders who want lots of float. I like ordinary Shimano SPD pedals and mountain bike shoes. Guess I'm lucky. So far my feet and knees have not given me trouble.
Some recumbent cyclists place their cleats farther back towards the heel than is normal. I have not tried this myself.
Best of luck with your new bike!

Frog clipless pedals
Hey Eddie
I have a P38 too(isn't it a great bike!)and used SPDs for the first couple of years and they work great. Then I decided I wanted to lighten up the P38 some and bought some Sidi shoes and Speedplay Frogs which are a very good though pricey pedal. I like them a lot and they have excellent float, however, if you want a good problem free longlasting pedal, with okay float, that won't break the bank, go with SPDs. You can pick them up at your LBS or Nashbar for around $30.
BTW - to really enjoy your P38 and bent riding in general, you MUST use clipless pedals, otherwise you're beating your head against the wall. Good luck and enjoy that bike.

shimano vs platforms
I usually just wear my Asics Kayanos, caring little for the stiff cycling shoes. I can vary my foot position if they start to tingle. Never had a problem slipping off, even >50 mph. I give up some pulling power, but so what.
Pedal Game
Hey Scott and Joel, thanks for the info. I was considering the Frogs also. I have ordered the Bebops which are similar but have a few key differences that swayed me. You're right about needing clipless pedals. After I put my Time Attacks on as a test, I was much more relaxed. It's interesting that the P 38 is known for it's performance but every time I get on that bike, I don't care how fast I get to where I'm going, I just enjoy the ride.
